our stories

hear from shed members about their community

Working in partnership with The Beacon and artist Jenny Wicks as part of the Year of Storytelling (2022), we recorded over forty audio clips from nine shed members talking about their own stories, life experiences growing up, working and living in Inverclyde.

This collaboration explored people's connection to place through presenting the every-day and extraordinary life histories of members of the Shed, adding a more personal and modern dimension to the ‘Ships and Sugar’ legacy that is often associated with the area's history. These authentic voices cover the tears, laughter, culture, society, industry and politics of Inverclyde and how these have shaped individuals and our community at large.
